The Department of Journalism and Mass Communications has released the first issue of Netra, the news journal of students, for the year 2017-18 at at a function held in college on 1st August 2017. The first copy was released by the Principal, Rev.Dr.Gigi Thomas. Mr. Sajeev Pazhur, noted script writer, received the first copy from the Principal. The first issue was published by Christine Elisabeth, Thejus Geogy Zakariah, Devika Krishna, Aleena Mary Rajan and Aravind Joshy of second B.A. JMCP.
Short fiction of III year students were also screened at the function and the You Tube versions were released by the Bursar, Rev. Fr. Joshua Kochuvilayil. Short fiction were produced based on the themes 'Waiting' and 'Redemption'. Mr. Sajeev Pazhur evaluated the short fiction and gave feedback to the students.
'In the Middle of Nowhere' produced by Al Ameen, Akash Chandra Mohan, Anjusha G.K., Aalavika M.L. and Anarkkali Marikkar were adjudged the best among the 'Waiting' series of short fiction. The film captured the stigma faced by the transgender community in an innovative format. 'Kalivallam' produced by Tess J.S., Andrea Rebecca Jacob, Sajin Raj, and Anoop Krishnan H. , a non linear narrative based on the theme ‘Redemption’ bagged the first position. 'Ppbha' and "Pirakkatha Makanu' were the second best short fiction selected by the script writer.
After the screening, students interacted with Mr. Sajeev Pazhur on his latest super hit movie 'Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum'.
